Love is papier-mâché patience
It’s a creative state of mind
Love is a sticky, glittering mess
And coloring outside of the lines

And love can create
The most precious of things
A macaroni house
And rubber band rings

A popsicle stick family
Each with a scrap paper heart
Glued to their felt sleeves
An imperfect work of art

A sock puppet pup
With the googliest of eyes
A pipe cleaner cat
With whiskers outsized

Painted banners for each holiday
And spreads of playdough food
Bouquets of tissue paper flowers
Just to boost your mood

Over time these precious things
Will change, age or wear
Some will wane in such a way
That go beyond repair

However messy and imperfect
And while eventually they may fade
The arts and crafts we love
Are best when they’re homemade

Love is the fabric of our being
It’s the strings tugging at our heart
Love is the glue holding it all together
And love is always art
